Mystery Castle
With a name like “Mystery Castle,” you know you’re in for a treat. Architect Boyce Luther Gulley built this property for his daughter in 1930 using found materials after discovering he was dying of tuberculosis. Shortly after his death, Gulley’s daughter and wife discovered they had inherited the property and moved into it. The Mystery Castle is a Phoenix Point of Pride and contains many nooks and crannies to be explored.
Agua Fria National Monument
The Agua Fria National Monument contains more than 450 Native American structures, including massive pueblos with more than 100 rooms. It stands as a testament to Arizona’s extensive history that dates back well beyond the arrival of European settlers.
Frank Lloyd Wright Spire
Another historic architectural masterpiece near Peoria is the Frank Lloyd Wright Spire. It’s a rather eccentric work of art that looks brilliant with its shining lights at night.
Pioneer Living History Museum
With 20 historic buildings dating back to the 19th century, Pioneer Living History Museum is a great place to learn more about Arizona’s settlement. Be sure to stop by the reproduction Blacksmith and Carpenter’s shops.
