American Home Water and Air
One of the marks of a successful businessman is demonstrated clearly when they provide quality workmanship, extensive knowledge of their product and the ability to offer superior equipment. When it comes to Tom Knapp, Co-founder of American Home Water, you know that you are getting the entire package. Besides sharing his depth of knowledge and expertise regarding water-conditioning systems, Tom believes strongly in providing exceptional customer service.
Raised in Upstate New York, Tom followed in his parent’s footsteps and began working as a union Electrician at the local Westinghouse Facility where he remained until the plant closed in 1977. After being accepted into the MBA program at the University of Arizona, he and his wife packed up and moved from New York to Tucson, Arizona. An enduring childhood friendship with his close friend Tom Atkinson proved to take them both on an exciting business journey in the state of Arizona. Tom Atkinson was invited to visit his lifelong friend Tom Knapp in Arizona which led to the two men opening their own solar energy company in Phoenix, Arizona. The solar water heating business also led Tom and his partner to the water softening and filtration industry. His success in the industry led to Tom’s most notable solar installation in Arizona, where he installed an 800 square foot solar array at Barry Goldwater’s home with his partner Tom Atkinson.
Tom began installing water softeners in 1980 just around the time that Reverse Osmosis technology was becoming a practical addition to many homes. Because the water in Arizona was getting worse, it was definitely the right industry to consider. As people moved to Arizona they were absolutely shocked at how destructive the water was on plumbing fixtures, which further demonstrated to Tom the importance of his specialization in water filtration installation. Working with sub-contracting installations for builders and remodelers, as well as focusing on installations for other water companies such as Culligan and Kinnetico, he and his partner were able to rapidly build their business. Over the past thirty years, Tom’s company has literally installed over 1,000 Kinnetico (locally Maricopa Water) and Culligan units as well as proudly installing over 50,000 residential systems.
Taking great pride in serving his community, Tom has seen many water conditioning companies come and go in Phoenix. Yet based on his company’s reputation, American Home Water has continued to expand and develop. One of the most important elements of the company is Tom’s commitment to quality workmanship. Having seen first hand the manner in which some companies market water conditioners, Tom would have no part of aggressive selling. Instead he has always believed in helping people make wise decisions. It is because of his approach to consumer care that potential customers contacting the company are assured of speaking to either of the owners, as they believe in answering any and all questions. Quoting Tom: “If you want a two-hour water demo and a hard sell then we’re not the company for you. We don’t believe that you need a salesman, but we do believe you need someone knowledgeable to help you through the process. Getting a good water conditioning system is crucial to a healthy life and nothing gives me as much satisfaction as helping people make the right water conditioning decision.”
Selling reliable equipment and knowing all the ins and outs regarding how to install equipment properly has made Tom’s company the water conditioning company of choice. Whether a customer wants to gather information or if they want to learn more about how each type of system can improve their water, Tom and his company will come through. With years of experience in Phoenix, Tom is available to help anyone make an informed decision.
