Sahuaro Ranch Park is a historic recreational spot established in 1886. Founder William Henry Bartlett was drawn to the site because of its rich vegetation, including vineyards, fruits, and orchards.

Today, locals refer to Sahuaro Ranch as “the crown jewel of Glendale’s park system.” Spend a few minutes here and you’ll immediately see why!

The canal’s banks are especially popular among cyclists and joggers today.

Glendale History

Glendale, Arizona was founded by William John Murphy, a businessman from New York, in 1887. You can actually still see Murphy’s house in Phoenix. It’s one of the few pre-1900s homes still standing in Phoenix. It’s hidden well behind privacy bushes and hedges but you’ll spot the large yellow Victorian residence if you travel west on Orangewood Avenue.

Glendale is currently home to some of Arizona’s wealthiest neighborhoods, including Emerald Isle and Verdugo Woodlands.

Glendale Population

Glendale has a population of roughly 250,000 people, according to the United States Census Bureau. This places it among the top 100 American cities by population.
